Participants will explore the intersection of sewn bindings and the possibilities of expanding embroidery techniques onto the spine of a book. The workshop will begin by making simple adaptations of traditional bindings, using weaving and braiding, and modifying stitches to create an embroidered sampler-style binding. Participants will expand their repertoire to create on the embroidered spine sampler by adding patterns derived from Elizabethan Blackwork embroidery an other traditional styles.
