Large-scale, transformative projects that reach thousands of Cuyahoga County residents.

An opportunity for organizations to collaborate, to take creative risk. Creative Culture Grants was piloted in 2013 as a chance to win up to $150,000 to bring vibrant arts and culture to Cuyahoga County through a public voting process.

2013 Creative Culture Grants Program

In 2013, Cuyahoga Arts & Culture announced that Dancing Wheels and LAND studio were the winners of the 2013 Creative Culture Grants program. These winners were selected through a public voting process with the help of the residents of Cuyahoga County. Each organization received up to $150,000 to bring their projects “Daring to Be Dumbo” (Dancing Wheels) and AHA! Light Up Cleveland! (LAND studio) to life.

Arts and culture organizations based in Cuyahoga County proposed exciting and diverse projects that were narrowed down to the top six projects by an independent panel of experts.

Then, 6,500 Cuyahoga County residents participated by voting to help decide which two arts and cultural projects would receive funding through the program.

The Winning Projects

Dancing Wheels’ “Daring to be Dumbo” documentary and outreach project launched on Saturday, April 5, 2014, when WKYC-TV Channel 3 aired the 30-minute documentary on bullying. In 2014, Dancing Wheels brought the documentary and its message to more than 25 Cuyahoga County Public Library branches.

LAND studio’s AHA! Light Up Cleveland! was a free, multi-day festival of lights in downtown Cleveland’s public spaces that took place in conjunction with the 2014 Gay Games.
