Cuyahoga Arts & Culture’s Board President Joseph P. Gibbons will not seek reappointment after his term ends on March 31, 2018.

"We are so grateful to have had the benefit of Joe's expertise and deep commitment to arts and culture," said Karen Gahl-Mills, CEO + Executive Director. "His leadership of the board during the levy campaign, our organizational planning work, and our ongoing grantmaking has been critical to our success, and we wish him well as he focuses his energy on his law practice, his numerous community commitments, and his family."

Read below a statement from Mr. Gibbons:

After serving four years on Cuyahoga Arts & Culture’s Board of Trustees, I’ve decided not to seek reappointment to the Board after my term concludes March 31, 2018.

While my service on the CAC Board has been an honor and personally fulfilling in many respects, it has also been extremely time consuming. It was a difficult decision as I recognize that public funding through Cuyahoga Arts & Culture positively impacts both the quality of life and economic vitality of our county. However, the growing demands of my law practice, other board and community obligations, and family commitments factored into my decision. I intend to serve on the Board until my successor is appointed by the County Executive.

The arts have played an important role in my family’s life and during my tenure I developed an even greater awareness of and appreciation for the many arts and cultural organizations that make our county a wonderful place to live. I have the utmost confidence in CAC’s staff and leadership, and I know the agency will continue to provide meaningful support to the more than 250 organizations it funds in Cuyahoga County.

Trustee Charna Sherman’s current term also ends on March 31, 2018. She has submitted a request for reappointment to serve an additional term.

CAC’s Board is led by five community leaders, appointed by the Cuyahoga County Executive. Board members serve as volunteers on rotating three-year terms. All CAC Board of Trustees meetings are open to the public. Learn more at cacgrants.org/about-us/board/.
