Updates from Cuyahoga Arts & Culture's November 13 Board of Trustees Meeting

Cuyahoga Arts & Culture’s Board of Trustees met on Wednesday, November 13, 2019, at the Children’s Museum of Cleveland.  Here’s what you missed if you weren’t able to attend.

2020 Grant Announcement

The Board of Trustees approved 277 grants to support nonprofit arts and cultural organizations and projects in Cuyahoga County in 2020. The total investment is $11.8 million in General Operating Support and Project Support grant programs.

CAC is one of the largest local public funders of arts and culture in the nation, granting more than $193 million to more than 420 organizations since 2007.

CAC’s General Operating Support program provides unrestricted, multi-year support grants to arts and cultural organizations based in and serving Cuyahoga County. CAC granted a total of $10.2 million to 65 organizations.

The Project Support grant program promotes and encourages the breadth of arts and cultural programming in our community by funding projects of all sizes in Cuyahoga County. CAC granted a total of $1,600,898 in Project Support for 2020 to 212 organizations.

More details are available in our press release.

Administrative Matters:

  • Finance Report: The Board received a report on tax receipts, which are running 8% lower than the same period in 2018. CAC staff said Board and staff will continue to work on projections and expect to lower the grant program allocations for 2022 as revenue continues to decline.
  • Executive Director Search: Trustee and Search Team Liaison Gary Hanson also provided an update on the search for CAC's next executive director. He reported the search firm and volunteer search committee team to review resumes. Trustee Hanson noted the Board remains confident in the interim leadership and the work of the staff.
  • Strategic Alliance: Board and staff discussed that CAC, Arts Cleveland (formerly CPAC) and Arts and Culture Action Committee (political action committee) have hired a firm to build an alliance and identify ways the three organizations can work better together for the benefit of residents and arts organizations.
