Cuyahoga
Arts & Culture’s Board of Trustees met on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at
SPACES in Cleveland. Here’s what you missed if you weren’t able to attend.
Executive Director Search: Arts Consulting Group (ACG) of
Boston was present to give an overview of its qualifications and its process
for conducting CAC’s executive director search. ACG was hired by the board at a
meeting
in August. ACG reported it will offer opportunities for CAC
constituents to weigh in on important characteristics for the next executive
director in late October; details will be announced when available.
Trustee Gary Hanson will act as a
board liaison to ACG, leading a search team of community members who will weigh
in on the search process.
If
you are interested in providing input into the search process, please contact
ACG search lead Bruce Thibodeau at bdthibodeau@ArtsConsulting.com.
Support for Artists: The Board authorized CAC staff to move forward
with developing programs for artist support with six non-profit partners.
SPACES, LAND studio, Hispanic Business Center, Karamu House, Cleveland Public
Theatre, and Cleveland Neighborhood Progress will offer professional
development, project support, monetary support, and access to physical spaces
in early 2019. The nonprofit partners were chosen with the help of CAC’s Artist
Network Leaders.
Additionally,
the Board approved funding for artist stipends as part of an artist fellowship with
the Center for Performance and Civic Practice, which will bring a program
similar to its Learning Lab to Cuyahoga
County. At the April 2018 meeting, the Board authorized the staff to move
forward with CPCP to pilot a program for collaborative learning where
artists and civic partners (community, nonprofit) may conceive and execute an
arts-based project as a result of their partnership. The program will kick off
with an information session on October 11, 2018, with details forthcoming.
Looking Ahead
We will announce our 2019 grants
(continuing 2nd year operating support grants to 61 organizations
totaling $10.2m and likely over 200 additional organizations who will receive
annual project support grants totaling up to $1.9M) at our November
13, 2018 meeting.
