What to Expect at CAC’s September Board Meeting: New Trustees, Support for Artists & More

Cuyahoga Arts & Culture’s Board of Trustees will meet Monday, September 11, 2017, at 4:00 pm at SPACES, 2900 Detroit Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44113. We thank SPACES for hosting our meeting. View the agenda and handout materials.

Here are a few things you can expect at Monday’s meeting:

  • Update on Individual Artist Support. CAC’s Support for Artists Planning Team, a resident-led group made up of local artists and community leaders, will share a detailed update about its work to date. The charge of the team is to collect feedback from residents and artists and recommend new approaches for CAC to provide support to artists to CAC’s Board of Trustees. The planning team is putting together two forums to collect public input. The first, on September 16 at the Rainey Institute, will allow approximately 100 artists to come together and share their needs and aspirations, and offer feedback on the planning team’s vision and direction. A second public forum is being planned for October.
The planning team has modestly extended the timeline of its work and will make recommendations for Board consideration in December. This change is to allow ample time to collect community feedback and to do more research into effective models of artist support around the country. We’re grateful for the team’s energy and dedication as they have given many hours to this work. We continue to post updates at cacgrants.org/artists.

  • Grant Program Allocation Discussion. CAC’s staff and Board will begin discussions about allocations to fund the 2018-19 General Operating Support and 2018 Project Support grant programs. Grants will be recommended for approval at the November 2017 Board meeting.
  • Swearing In of New Trustees. Cuyahoga County Councilman Pernel Jones will be present to swear in current Trustee Gwen Garth, who was reappointed to a three-year term, and Ken Miller, who will be a appointed to the CAC Board.
